A workshop is a great way to start a business transformation initiative with a quick engagement centered on collaboration between BizAl and the customer. Workshops are limited in scope and either focus on a specific topic (e.g. business idea, new product line, investment opportunity, investment in technology) or a high-level analysis of the business challenge. Workshops are very efficient instruments to identify  areas of business that require further investigation and can be the object of follow up projects.


Projects are larger in scope compared to workshops and typically last several weeks or months. Business Alignment is the core BizAl service that leverages BizAl’s unique business consulting methodology . It analyses a business from the top down and focuses on the overall success of the business. In the course of the engagement BizAl will review the business context and the company business model, define the business goals, and align the business strategy to those goals. Where is the business now and where it should be in 3-5-7 years? How is the value proposition evolving and what is the product strategy? How decisions are influenced by the competitive landscape? The scope can include an analysis  of the innovation strategy and support with product development, including customer validation and development.

The scope of the engagement can be expanded with an analysis of business enablers (processes, talent, structure, technology), or with a review of partnerships and supply-chain. It’s critical for a company to have business enablers aligned with business goals and setup to fulfill the business capabilities that drive  business outcome. The scope of the engagement can be very broad to analyze the overall technology consumption structure or can be focused on a specific area of technology. The depth of the analysis also varies from high-level to deep-dive. A high-level analysis is typically the initial phase of a large transformation program or a discovery activity to get a quick glance at how technology is serving the business units. A detailed, deep-dive business-technology alignment engagement is particularly useful before making a significant investment in a technology solution to ensure that the solution is providing the support that the business unit needs to achieve their goals and there is no conflict with other transformation initiatives.

Business-technology alignment is extremely beneficial during M&As or turnarounds to estimate operational efficiencies. The following simple example clarifies the importance of measurement tied to business outcome. A company invested 1% of budget to switch to technology solution XYZ to reduce IT cost by 2%. The solution included two new features, A and B. Due to some issues additional cost was necessary to deploy the solution and make feature B work, which reduced IT cost as expected. Overall the IT department saved 0.1% and called the project a success. Feature A had to be disabled or it would have cost additional 0.2% to fix it.  The business line lost 1% of revenues due to the issues and never used feature A, which would have increased revenues by 1%.
